Spacelab D-2 -- Experiment operations

This picture shows the D-2 payload crew responsible for conducting the scientific investigations during inflight activities. At the far left, Payload Commander Jerry Ross works on the Werkstofflabor, a facility designed to support materials science investigations. Ulrich Walter (background) measures his baroreflex using a neck cuff to provide suction to stimulate the baroreceptors in his neck. The two astronauts to the right, Bernard Harris and Hans Schlegel, are involved in a blood draw requested by scientists investigating the hormonal response of the human body to space flight.
