IMAGE INFORMATION

Image Name:
Xenon experiment setup
Image Description:
During the Xenon experiment, which was performed pre- and postflight, the crew was injected with small amounts of 133Xenon, which acted as a tracer. A Xenon Detector Unit was attached to each crewmember's leg slightly above the ankle as demonstrated in this photo. This measured the crewmember's subcutaneous vascular resistance, which helps to regulate arterial blood pressure and prevent dizziness when standing.
