Data Set Name Oxygraph analysis of the mouse and rat heart after exposure to chronic neutrons, silicon ions, with and without the administration of aspirin as a potential countermeasure
Data Set Description Oxygraph data obtained from heart tissue collected 800 days after the start of radiation exposure in the following groups (each in a separate tab in the datasheet):
- Male C3H mice exposed to a single dose of silicon ions and treated chronically with low-dose aspirin for 400 days after radiation
- Female Balb/C mice exposed to low-dose rate neutrons for 400 days
- Male C3H mice exposed to low-dose rate neutrons for 400 days
- Male C3H mice exposed to low-dose rate neutrons for 400 days and treated chronically with low-dose aspirin during radiation
- Male Long Evans rats exposed to low-dose rate neutrons

Cardiac mitochondrial function was measured in permeabilized myocytes (~1 mg) and mitochondria isolated from ~30 mg of myocardial tissue for assessment of respiratory function and reactive oxygen species release. Experiments were performed with a high resolution respirometry system (Oroboros Oxygraph) using various mitochondrial substrates. Mitochondrial release of reactive oxygen species from freshly isolated mitochondria was measured with Amplex Red using a fluorometer module coupled to the oxygraph chamber. No outliers identified.
